Craft Paints
No collage is complete without some paint. Well, at least in my book. I love to add craft paints to the layers in my collage. Paint unifies and bonds the artwork.
Craft paints are the cheapest and most accessible material to use. They come in a huge variety of colors, from a wide range of manufacturers, generally in 2oz or the larger 8oz bottles.
They can be applied to many surfaces – wood, terra cotta, paper maché, ceramics, fabric, poster board, canvas and of course paper. Craft paint is an acrylic based paint that is fast-drying. They are usually dry to the touch in 10 minutes depending on humidity. They are generally thick in consistency but can be diluted with water. Once dry they are water-resistant and permanent.
You can buy more expensive acrylic paints for your projects too. Acrylics come in tubes or bottles, are water soluble and are used in much the same way as craft paint. Aside from the expense, acrylics differ from craft paint in that they result in a richer, more saturated color as they have more pigment in them. But they come in fewer colors so you need to know how to mix your paints to achieve the colors you want.
